Chance to win cruise from PHiP

Parrot Heads in Paradise have been awarding qualified parrot heads and their children a total of $10,000 in scholarships every year for the last 10 years. Fundraising has been just keeping pace with our pay-outs each year and we want to add some additional funds to ensure future years’ have adequate funding.  To make sure that we can continue to award these gifts well into the future we have come up with a great way to help that cause. Windjammer cruises has donated a cruise for two to raffle off this year.  We will be selling tickets via PayPal or check starting today.

We will draw for the cruise Saturday, November 5th from the stage at Meeting of the Minds for the seven night cruise on this beautiful boat.  Winners do not need to be present at MOTM to win the cruise!  Tickets are five for $20 or five dollars for one. I will send you via email with a list of your numbers so you have them for your records.  I will be tracking the name and numbers of every ticket coming in and they will all be in Key West for the drawing.

You can pay via PayPal - to or send your check to David Cohen, 6986 Samantha Court Wheatfield, NY 14304 (checks payable to Parrot Heads in Paradise).  Checks will only be accepted up until MOTM registration closes on September 15th. If you are mailing a check please send your email address if you want your numbers emailed to you.  When you get to MOTM you may purchase additional tickets right up until 2:30 pm on Saturday.  Thank you in advance for your support of the wonderful cause.

Keith Sykes Release Party!

Keith Sykes single release party, Friday night, March 11th, The Warehouse, 36 E. GE Patterson Ave.  7 pm doors open, 8 pm watch Keith get his Beale Street Brass Note!  Join us for this fun event!  Keith Sykes celebrates the release of his new single "Come As You Are Beach Bar" on March 11 at The Warehouse!

Don't miss this one - Keith will also be honored that night with his official Beale Street Brass Note ceremony!

Doors: 7 PM
Beale Street Brass Note Ceremony: 8 PM + music to follow

Somewhere in Texas, there’s a little beach town where Keith Sykes finds himself once a year, in the wintertime. He holes up for a month, with the salty air and his guitar, unloading his mind of all the half-written lyrical lines and lonely guitar licks a year can bring.

“I’ve always had a natural tie to a certain kind of music anyway, even before I was a Coral Reefer,” Sykes says. “Because of my love of the islands, the little beach towns, and the people I meet when I’m in that environment.”

His new single, “Come As You Are Beach Bar,” is the story of some of those people. It came to life out of a snippet of guitar, Sykes says. “That’s what I had first, just a little guitar thing that I liked.”

Next thing he knew, he was waxing on the tale of Captain Bobby and a dive bar whose characters he paints so vividly you can almost feel yourself sitting next to them at the bar, salt spray and stale beer hanging in the air.

There’s a different feel to this song – Sykes is playful in his phrasing, almost spoken word – an indication that after more than 40 years in the business, Keith Sykes isn’t slowing down or taking it easy. He’s looking for new sounds, new ideas and new challenges. He’s risen to this one with splendid result.

The single will be out on iTunes and Amazon March 11 via KSM Entertainment. Keith Sykes celebrates the release of his new single "Come As You Are Beach Bar" on March 11 at The Warehouse!

It's Still 5 O'clock Here

Welcome to the Memphis Parrot Head Club
Formed in 2000, the Memphis PHC has enjoyed 16 years of partying with a purpose. We owe it all to you!
Like a Phoenix (or rather a Parrot) rising from the ashes, you just can’t keep a good Parrot Head Club down. Formed in 2000, the Memphis PHC has enjoyed 16 years of partying with a purpose. We owe it all to you! For those of you who have enjoyed meeting new friends, enjoying music, and supporting our charitable causes, we invite you to renew your membership NOW!
We have been informed by PHIP that the Memphis Parrot Head Club can keep its Charter if we act quickly. We must have at least 12 paid registered members and a Board in place by the end of January 2016.
This means we need all of you Fruitcakes to send your renewal membership applications (and $$) now!
If you are interested in remaining a member of the MPHC (or becoming a new member):
1. Please fill in your application form with a check for dues and mail it to the address on the form right away. Please put it in the mail by the 10th of January. We have a deadline of January 31st to get our monies to PHIP. (Sorry that the PayPal link is not currently available. We have to redo the website and open a new bank account. That is why we are asking you to locate your checkbooks and send the dues via Snail Mail).

2. Our next meeting will be held:
WHEN: Thursday, January 21st, 2016

3. The agenda of the meeting will be to hold the election of board members and to set the Thursday night each month you want to meet. Mortimer’s has offered to let us use their private dining area. They have great seafood (give me oysters, beer, every single day of the year) and live music on Thursday nights. If anyone has another family friendly venue we should consider, please bring your ideas to the meeting. We want to have a regular monthly meeting night and location. Future meetings will be to decide on bylaws, charities etc. Agendas will be distributed prior to the meetings via email.
4. The following members are proposed for our new board:

Katy Vida Dawkins - Founder
Cyndi Coury- Treasurer
Other nominations may be made at the meeting for Secretary and VP. If you have any interest in either of these offices, let Karen Scott know.
